Our basses never individually had a huge part. We had one section (about 8 measures) that was all bass though.

she had the coolest rhythms that needed to be heard so she now remembers to play louder in that cadence

For bass? Um. As I only played it for one parade I just used the mallets of the kid who was gone (that's why I was playing) and our school buys our mallets for us. They're not the best mallets is what I've heard though, so if you want quality ones you buy them yourself.

Our bass drums used vic firth, but switched to indoor innovative percussion for nationals. (We didn't have to buy our own)
