Do you guys think that if someone can play both flute and say trumpet they are both a flute and trumpet? Even if trumpet's not their main instrument or they're not amazing at it?

I chose "Only if you're good at both" but then I thought about it and I say yes, because even if you aren't great at both, you should be considered both, because some people aren't great at their main instrument.

I was wondering because someone told me I couldn't say I was another instrument just because I wasn't "good" at it.

I don't think skill has much to do with it. Music is subjective. Can anyone really tell someone in beginning band they aren't good enough to be considered players of their instrument? In the grand scheme of things is that first chair in the top high school ensemble really good enough when there are probably thousands of better players out there? If it's based on skill, it's hard to make the cut off. Yeah, the person probably should have an idea of how to a play the instrument, but I think it's unfair to say that someone doesn't really play an instrument because they don't meet some arbitrary skill requirement.

yeah, i agree with that. if you play an instrument regularly, then you can be considered a member of that instrument's section. the only difference is that you can't just pick up an instrument for the first time make a sound a declare that you are now one of them. it doesn't work that way. does that make sense?
