My school uses Sousas, but I think it would be awesome to use a Contra.

Started sousaphone this summer for marching band myself, since our only tuba player had graduated. He decided to do a super-senior year, so for the first time in 5 years, we had two sousaphones. I learned much faster than I expected, being a woodwind player for 6 years beforehand.
My school's band is tiny. Our marching band and HS concert band are both about 30 people, so we make our impression with dynamics more so than formations.

I played clarinet for the past 4 years and I was expected to learn tuba in...2 months? Something like 2 months anyways, and then I had to march in a parade, and then we had band camp. I learned A LOT at band camp too. My marching band has roughly 100 people, including 4 sousaphones counting me. The section leader sousaphone helped me learn MANY fingerings, and just playing as much as we had to improved my range.

TUBA! Anywho. I'm a concert Bari-Sax but Marching Sousa. I'd absolutely love to use a Contra...
