Some instruments that are very rarely found in a band setting are really awesome. My personal favorites are the Ukulele, the Hand Pan/Hang Drum, and the Cajon.

Does tearing pieces of paper and crumpling them up count? My music for honor band calls for that

My band had a piece last year where we all had to sing a phrase, and then whisper words like "honor" "Brave" and "soul". We've never really used unique instruments though. Unless you count the flugel horn.

I recently started playing the musical saw, I'm gonna really bug my director for a solo when I get good at it.

It would be cool to use a dulcimer or cimbalom

I play a melodica in a jazz combo, and native american flute and theremin alone, in my room because no one likes them.

We had an electric violin and an alto clarinet. Extremely unusual where I live

Orchestra instruments, AKA violins and violas. During the UIL state marching trip, one of the bands used an electronic violin or viola. I'm not really sure. Another thing that is rare in a marching show is a contra bass clarinet. Haven't seen that with my own eyes, but I've seen some bands on YouTube that uses the contra.
